Over-30 Cup - Recap & Results

The tournament started on Saturday morning with 4 Women’s Division games. The AWSL team Deadhorse beat the AWSL team Card Me! 2-0. On field 12, the defending Champions from Las Cruces the Diamonds, played the Tucson/Albuquerque team the Hooligans, winning 10-0.

At 10.30 AM the first Men’s game was played with Catamount from Santa Fe beat the ASL team Eclipse 7-1.

At Noon, the Women played again in the following games:

Mighty Wombats 2 - Card Me! 0

Deadhorse 0 - Diamonds 7

At 1.30 PM Hampton Roads took on Catamount in the last Men’s game of the day. The ASL team lost against the Santa Fe team 2-6 securing Catamount a spot in the Over-30 Men’s Final.

In last game of the day at 2.00 PM the Mighty Wombats beat the Hooligans 6-0.

On Sunday, the weather was once again sunny and warm. The Women played 2 games at 9.00 AM

At 10.30 AM Hampton Roads played Eclipse for the ticket into the final game. The Eclipse scored early in the 1^st half, but Hampton Roads held them to the 1-0 until the 87^th minute, when a breakdown in the Eclipse defense gave Hampton Roads a break away resulting in the final score of 1-1. Due to a better goal differential Hampton Roads advanced to the Final.

At Noon the 2 undefeated women’s teams of the tournament played each other in a fast and competitive game. Though Mighty Wombats scored within the first couple of minutes, the Diamonds tightened up their Defense to hold on to the score to 0-1 in the first half. In the second half the Mighty Wombats secured 2 more goals for a final score of 3-0.

Also playing at noon, Hooligans won 3-0 over Card Me!

The Men’s Final was scheduled for 1.30 PM, due to various injuries; Hampton Roads had to give up their dream of winning the tournament. Catamount and a combined Hampton Roads/ Eclipse then squared off in a once again competitive friendly resulting on a 0-0 tie.

The final game of the day was played between Deadhorse and Mighty Wombats. The Mighty Wombats won the game 6-0 securing the Championship with a perfect shutout record of 17-0. Deadhorse was awarded with the 3^rd place trophy – though tied in points, they beat the Hooligans based on Goal Differential.

The tournament grew this year by 4 teams and we hope play at capacity with a total of 16 teams next year.
